Paleoclimate Variations Spanning the Past 29–4 Ma Inferred From Lipid Biomarkers and Carbon Isotopes in the Linxia Basin, Northeast Tibetan Plateau

Thick and continuous deposits in the Linxia Basin, located landing area of westerlies monsoons, offer a good opportunity for understanding climatic evolution tectonic activities. However, detailed paleoclimate reconstruction based on lipid biomarkers was rare, which limited our further knowledge, even though there were some relevant reports regarding pollen assemblages, microbial communities. In present study, we conducted systematic analyses carbon isotope values sediments, an effort to reconstruct history figure out potential driving mechanism. Our results showed that organic matter from mixed sources including lower organisms terrestrial higher plants. The varied response change conditions as revealed by lipid-derived proxies isotopes. Significant events like late Oligocene Warming, Mid-Miocene Climatic Optimum aridification at ∼8.5 Ma observed throughout sequence. indicated study primarily followed pace long-term global cooling, associated with uplift Tibetan Plateau.
